Richard James Conway Sr., 87, of Toms River passed away on Thursday March 26, 2015 at Community Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. A lifelong resident of New Jersey, he resided in Chatham, Newark, Orange and East Orange prior to moving to Toms River, NJ in 1996. Richard was a World War II Veteran who served in the Navy. Richard James Conway Sr., 87, of Toms River passed away on Thursday March 26, 2015 at Community Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. A lifelong resident of New Jersey, he resided in Chatham, Newark, Orange and East Orange prior to moving to Toms River, NJ in 1996. Richard was a World War II Veteran who served in the Navy. He was a loving and caring father and husband to the late Miriam Ruth Conway, and was affectionately known as PopPop to his 18 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Prior to receiving his education at Lehigh University, where he obtained his engineering degree, he was a Navy WWII Veteran, though he often said that he went to sleep, and when he woke up the war was over. He was also a master plumber, a skill that was taught to him by his father, Thomas Conway. He was a Professional Engineer for over 45 years, holding positions with Worthington Pump, State of New Jersey, Professional Plan Examiners and Township of Parsippany. Dick, as he was known by friends and family, was actively involved in the Catholic school system particularly Holy Name of Jesus Christ, Essex Catholic High School, East Orange Catholic High School and Marylawn of the Oranges High School. Surviving are his children Richard J. Conway Jr. and wife Velma of North Caldwell, Linda Spahle of West Orange, NJ, James Conway and wife Carol of Locust Grove, GA, Michael Conway Sr. and wife Joanne of Bloomfield, NJ, Lisa Albano and husband Carl of Bloomfield, NJ, Charles Conway and wife Anjeleah of Aldie, VA, Susan Mellody and husband Timothy of North Andover, MA and Kevin Conway and wife Donna of Cherry Hill, NJ, grandchildren Megan and husband Greg Lapp, Brendan Conway, Nicole and husband Gregg Pekmezian, Lauren and husband Michael Salvatoriello, Kelli Conway, Joshua Conway, Christopher Conway, Michael Conway Jr., Marc Conway, Anthony Albano, Steven Albano, Vincent Albano, Sydney Conway, Sara Mellody, Kaitlyn Mellody, Ethan Conway, Keira Conway and Shaelea Conway and great grandchildren Riley, Harper and James. Visitation will be Sunday March 29th, 2015 from 2-5PM at the Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home, 26 Mule Road, Toms River, NJ 08755. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday March 30th, 2015 at 10:30AM at St. Maximilian Kolbe R.C. Church in Berkeley Township, NJ. Interment will be Tuesday March 31st, 2015 at 12:30PM at the New Jersey Veteran's Cemetery in Wrightstown, NJ. Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.quinn-hoppingfh.com.
